Continued expansion of our company can cause increased pressures on the environment increasing the need for a reduction in environmentally damaging activities. Some of these damaging activities involve the production and disposal of waste.
Sustainable waste management encourages the generation of less waste, the re-use of consumables, and the recycling and recovery of waste that is produced.
Abacus believe, therefore, that we have a commitment to :
- Maintain the highest environmental standards for waste management, ensuring full compliance with existing legislation and to ensure that all employees are trained to the highest standards and kept abreast of new developments and changes in legislation.
- Work within the company’s operating practices and maintain records as required under ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001.
- Maintain a high standard of environmental waste management awareness and compliance throughout the company and wherever possible, recycle materials used within our own company function.
- Evaluate all material in accordance with ISO 14001 procedures and develop recycling and recovery alternatives where practicable.
- Continually invest in methods and options to improve the efficiency of our activities so as to reduce the use of energy – non-renewable sources in particular.
- Provide information and guidance on environmental issues such as recommendations of recycled paper to our customers on an ongoing basis.
Abacus has committed to implemented the EU strategy of waste management by developing the idea of a 'waste management hierarchy'. This encompasses the processes of reduction, re-use, recycling and recovery, in that order of priority.
